Series of podcasts for parents, by parents

As Back-to-School decision has become a serious concern all over the world, it is more important for families and policymakers to consider the full spectrum of benefits and risks of both in-person and virtual learning options. Many available studies give evidence if children become infected, they are far less likely to suffer severe symptoms. Aside from home, a school setting can be a trusting place for children’s health and well-being. Considering the in-person environment, National PTA has designated Sept.14-18 Back-to-School Week to support families, teachers and PTA leaders as schools reopen across the United States.

The harms caused to closed schools and academic achievement of children, in both the short- and long-term, are well-known and significant. Throughout the ‘Back-to-School’ week, National PTA will share information and resources on its social media platforms using #PTABackToSchool.

COVID-19 and Children

The parent-teacher-student organization hopes to help school communities navigate the new school year and address the challenges that have emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic. The association will also launch the third season of its Notes from the Backpack podcast featuring a unique combination of expert, parent and educator guests to offer life advice and ideas on how to support children’s learning and development.

National PTA on each day of Back-to-School Week, will share resources for:

  • PTA Leaders in Action
  • Learning at Home
  • Family-School Partnerships
  • Teacher Support

Notes from the Backpack

On Wednesday, Sept. 16, the third season of podcasts will feature nationally acclaimed guests and episodes about digital learning, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on education and the importance of civic engagement. Episodes will be released every week this fall and will be available to stream at  PTA.org/BackpackNotes.

The first episode will feature the award-winning children’s book author Kwame Alexander.

National PTA has compiled resources, tools, and information at PTA.org/COVID19 to support families and educators during the pandemic. National PTA has also granted over $1 million to local and district/council/region PTAs to help meet the critical needs of students, families and teachers during this challenging time.
