Involvement of the community in the development
The Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) program of CGIAR initiated to collect data from the households, community and from the organization. The main purpose of the project was to educate the farmers and see if they are using techniques that are more useful in preserving the environment. The initial data was taken from 140 families back in 2010-2011 from Lawra-Jirapa, the upper west region of Ghana.
The next in the line is to go back there and see if efforts of the CCAFS over the years have bought some changes in the livelihoods, farming techniques, management of land, sources of income, sources of food, food security, asset ownership and involvement of the local organization in this.
For the same, a survey was done by CGIAR in 2018 to see if the program has bought some positive changes in the lives of the villagers or not. The methodology that was used to conduct a survey was the same as in 2010.
Changes can be seen on the ground
CGIAR held a workshop in Jirapa on 2nd July to disclose the initial findings of the survey, saw 46 people attend the event. The majority of them were farmers who are related to the CCAFS. The information included the change in the size of the household, food security and increase in production.
The program has positively influenced the life of the community in the areas that have implemented it. The changes in the education system have allowed the students to get a better education, which is helping young people to work in different sectors. The increase in household income is facilitating all these development work to be carried out.
The program helped not only the farmers and students but empowered women by teaching them the means of economic use, which will increase the flow of money.
