Generation Google Scholarship
Google has recently launched the ‘Generation Google Scholarship’ for women studying computer science. Students who are selected for the scholarship program will receive 10,000 USD (for those pursuing the program in the US) or 5000 CAD (for those pursuing the program in Canada) for the 2022-23 school year. The scholarship program has been established to assist and inspire students to pursue computer science and excel in the field of technology. This will be awarded based on the strength of each candidate’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, innovation, demonstrated leadership, and academic performance.
To be eligible for applying for the scholarship program, students must –
- Intend to be enrolled in or accepted as a full-time student in a Bachelors, Masters, or Ph.D. program at an accredited university or college in the US or Canada for the 2022-23 academic year
- Exemplify leadership and demonstrate a passion for improving the representation of underrepresented groups in computer science and technology
- Should be pursuing computer science, computer engineering, or a program closely related to the technical field
- Should validate a strong academic record
- Demonstrate financial need
- Belong from an underrepresented group in computer science (African American, Hispanic, American Indian, or a female)
Also, the applicant must be currently enrolled as a full-time student in a Bachelor’s degree for the 2021-22 academic year.
Application Process
Applicants for the scholarship program will be required to submit an online application that should include –
- Resume/CV of the applicant
- General background information
- Family and household information
- Academic transcripts from current and prior institutes
- Responses to three short answer essay questions
- 15 minute ‘meet and greet’ per shortlist participant
The scholarship amount will be awarded directly to the students and should only be spent on tuition, fees, books, supplies, and equipment required for their classes. For students under the age of 18, a parent or guardian must be present to sign and accept the scholarship award terms and conditions.
