Healthcare is one of the most important industries in our society, a pathway to good health and well-being for people of all ages. With the current pandemic, the significance of healthcare systems and healthcare professionals has come to the forefront since the outbreak of the coronavirus, with healthcare workers charged with saving lives daily.

The healthcare management field needs professionals to help improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare, and as healthcare continues to evolve, more opportunities will become available. DeVry University offers a variety of options in the healthcare management area, including degrees, certificate programs, and specializations.

Offering a Variety of Healthcare Management Programs

As the healthcare management industry continues to advance, the technology that supports the industry also advances. Founded in 1931, DeVry University provides students with real-world experience by incorporating technologies in course activities such as virtual collaboration tools and hands-on experience with software programs utilized by healthcare management professionals. In addition, many of its healthcare management programs provide students with a foundation in business principles, which are essential to succeed in the ever-changing workplace.

At the undergraduate level, students who enroll at DeVry have several program options (program availability varies by location), including an undergraduate certificate program in Medical Billing and Coding, an associate’s degree in Health Information Technology, and a choice of three Bachelor’s Degree options: (i) Healthcare Administration with a specialization in Healthcare Management, (ii) Technical Management with a specialization in Health Information Management, and (iii) Specialization in Heath Services Management that is available within three of DeVry’s business degree programs. For those interested in an advanced degree, DeVry University’s Keller Graduate School of Management offers a graduate certificate program in Health Services Management, a Master’s in Business Administration with a concentration in Health Services, or a Healthcare Management Emphasis within the Master of Public Administration program.

Maintaining a Healthy Learning Environment

DeVry University grounds itself in a culture of care, which focuses on care for self, care for others, and care for students. In the day-to-day work lives, university colleagues go the extra mile for each other and this translates into care for students by creating a positive environment where they can experience high-quality, personalized learning supported by outstanding service. The entire organization works together to drive the mission of helping students achieve their goals and build their future. A variety of technology-assisted learning tools enhances the programs and curriculum to promote positive learning outcomes and support different learning styles.

A healthy and positive environment plays a vital role at DeVry University, which helps in maintaining an inspiring learning environment where students feel safe and motivated to pursue their goals. Due to the pandemic, campuses are currently closed with all on-site instruction moved to remote learning. The university plans to comply with all CDC and state requirements for keeping students physically safe when reopening. In addition to a safe physical environment, DeVry offers students a variety of support services, including access to mental health resources through the ASPIRE program, and continues to provide this support during the pandemic.

Encouraging the Students to Explore

Shantanu Bose, Ph.D., is serving as the provost of DeVry University. Understanding the current needs of the industry, he and his team have developed new programs and curricula. His professional journey includes industry experience, strategy consulting, and leadership roles at educational organizations. He says, “What I like most about DeVry is our ability to adapt and pivot as needed so as to serve our students in the best possible manner.”

With the global pandemic, students may have more interest in choosing a career in healthcare management. This also means students may be more confused about selecting a program or college. Dr. Bose encourages students to explore all of their options and talk to other students and professionals who currently have positions in the healthcare management field before choosing a path that’s right for them.

Personalized Attention to International Students

DeVry University welcomes international students and offers them personalized attention, hands-on learning opportunities, and year-round enrollment into the courses every eight weeks. The university holds international student orientation and support services and connects international students with an International Student Advisor who offers one-on-one assistance. In addition, its international student programs provide processing for new or transfer I-20 and degree completion programs. At this time, new international students studying in the U.S. on an approved F-1 student visa are eligible to apply for several grant opportunities at DeVry, such as the Opportunity Grant, Business Edge Scholarship and Dennis Keller Scholarship.

Supporting Throughout and Beyond the Pandemic Situation

At present, the campuses are closed and students have continued their on-site courses remotely. The university had all the processes and tools in place to help students make the transition to remote learning in three days, making it as seamless as possible. DeVry has provided students with virtual learning options for more than 20 years with a dedication to providing the best online experience from the virtual classroom to the learning resources they provide.

DeVry is committed to supporting its students throughout and beyond the pandemic. Additionally, for students needing a professional practice experience (PPE) at a healthcare facility, they have been placed in virtual PPE experiences that are monitored by program faculty and assessed to typical PPE standards. For recent graduates, extended time for certification exam completion and reimbursement is in place, as testing centers are limited or closed during the pandemic.
