Key Highlights:
- Ralph Lauren Corporate Foundation launches new Scholarship Programs aimed at supporting historically Black colleges and universities.
- The foundation has contributed a $2 million for the cause.
- Twelve colleges and universities have been primarily shortlisted to benefit from this launch.
The Scholarship Funding:
Ralph Lauren Corporate Foundation will benefit students at Morehouse College, Spelman College, and ten other historically black colleges and universities by contributing $2 million through the UNCF(United Negro College Fund). These scholarships, supported by the Ralph Lauren Corporate Foundation, follow the Ralph Lauren Corporation’s pledges. They focus on confronting the systemic racism and racial injustice by expanding equitable paths in the fashion industry and beyond, beginning with education. Ralph Lauren, Executive Chairman and Chief Creative Officer of Ralph Lauren Corporation, remarked, “Students reflect the best of the human spirit — passion, curiosity, and infinite ambitions.” “When all kids have an equal opportunity to thrive, their aspirations become a reality, inspiring us all.”
Target Beneficiaries of the Scholarship
The scholarship funds will assist qualifying students at 10 HBCUs over a five-year period, in addition to Morehouse College and Spelman College. Those institutions will be chosen in collaboration with UNCF based on criteria such as current unmet funding needs, enrolment rates, proximity to Ralph Lauren Corporation’s U.S. operation centres, and institutions that offer disciplines and curricula that prepare students for careers in the retail industry. Each award will encourage community service participation, broadening the reach of the Ralph Lauren Corporate Foundation’s scholarship programmes.
Long Term Goals in Plan
This endeavour supports institutions that share the Ralph Lauren Corporate Foundation’s ideals, such as striving for excellence, committing to inspiring and executing meaningful social change, and a commitment to compassion and service to others. Ralph Lauren Corporation’s work with HBCUs also includes facilitating career pathways for Black talent through internship, recruitment and mentorship. It runs development programmes, as part of the company’s Global Citizenship & Sustainability goals and commitment to building a diverse, inclusive, and equitable culture. These efforts are deepening as partnerships with educational institutions and external organizations evolve.
