Repton School Celebrates Exceptional 2024 A Level Results

Now that the 2024-25 autumn term is in full swing, Repton School has welcomed its latest cohort of Year 9s and said goodbye to its leavers. These pupils celebrated exceptional A level results and have gone on to study at renowned universities across the UK and beyond.

Fantastic A Level and BTEC Results

Repton’s 2022-24 A Level and BTEC pupils are delighted with their results. Nearly 42% of entries were awarded an A* or A grade, and 73% were awarded A* to B.

Nineteen pupils celebrated straight A*s and As, including Daniel Chan and Leo Pollock, who both secured A*s in each of their subjects. Leo managed this while competing nationally in Repton’s elite swimming programme.

Two more pupils, Alice Marriott and Evelyn Brough, received letters of commendation from their exam board, having scored some of the highest marks in the country in their Fine Art A Levels.

Many Repton pupils have gone on to study at their first-choice universities. Amongst these, Florence Thomas, Jenna Langley, Jenny Cameron, and Harriet Harte are now all at Cambridge University. Florence is studying English, Jenna is studying Medicine, and Jenny and Harriet are studying Medieval and Modern Languages.

Other pupils landed places at top U.S. universities, with:

  • Tilly Butterworth studying at Harvard University.
  • Ibby Weldon studying at Northeastern University in Boston.
  • Matvei Rybalkin studying at Boston University.
  • Holly Robinson studying at the University of Arkansas.
  • Jonny Rush studying at the Ohio State University.
  • Elly Broughton studying at the University of New Mexico.
  • Vladyslav Kotsiubynskyi studying at Reed College in Portland.

Several of these pupils will team their academic studies with elite sporting programmes, just like they did at Repton.

Repton School’s University and Careers Provision

Repton School supports each pupil to ensure they have access to the right higher-education opportunities for them.

Tutors, Houseparents, and subject staff offer advice relating to pupils’ individual circumstances. They also help pupils research courses and universities and write their personal statements. Those considering applying to Cambridge, Oxford, or international universities receive further advice and counselling too.

Although Repton provides a huge level of career support at A Level, pupils receive career guidance much earlier than this. Careers advice begins when pupils select their GCSE subjects, allowing them to choose these subjects based on their relation to careers. At this point, pupils use career profiling software to help them learn about the professions that could be a good fit for them.

Once pupils move into the Sixth Form, they follow a structured career advice programme. This involves a careers fair; a three-day Lower Sixth conference; and talks about universities, degree courses, UCAS, and student life. There’s also an annual Careers Convention, where visiting professionals discuss their careers and the academic paths they followed to get where they are today.

Academic Enrichment at A Level

Repton’s Sixth Form pupils have the opportunity to combine their A Level studies with additional qualifications that enrich their university applications and help them secure places at prestigious institutions.

For example, Lower Sixth pupils can take the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). This programme allows them to select an area of study beyond their A Level subjects. The project involves planning, researching, and producing an essay on their topic of choice. Repton pupils have written essays about:

  • How women’s rights in Iraq have developed since the U.S. invasion in 2003.
  • The evolution of gender stereotypes in Disney princess films over time.
  • How humans are neurobiologically programmed to acquire spoken language skills.

EPQ aside, Lower Sixth pupils can also complete the Future Leaders course. Repton has designed this course to prepare young people for the evolving workplace and world when they leave school.

Pupils take two lessons each week, completing three courses over three eight-week rotations. The courses are Public Speaking, Higher Education and Careers, and Lecture Series. While the first lesson of the week is on one of these topics, the second is dedicated to research skills and the EPQ.

Both the EPQ and the Future Leaders course are worth UCAS points that support pupils’ university applications and help them stand out as ideal candidates.
