Partners with Levine Music to create educational harmony
There’s a universal fact for music- singing in a group boosts mood! It provides physical and emotional benefits that help people to discover and raise their spirits. It also helps the body to- release feel-good hormones and reduce stress-causing ones, like cortisol. It’s no wonder that music plays an important role in every age. To create educational harmony, music institutions reach students to explain the importance of music in education and its wisdom. And the effect of good music on the child’s mind creates a musical structure of learning. Encouraging and the music education, Whittle School & Studios, and Levine Music partnered to provide Whittle students with music education at Whittle’s new D.C. campus and Levine’s Upton Street campus for the 2019-20 school year.
The partnership aims to birth symphony inside children of all musical backgrounds and levels of ability. Under the partnership, Whittle School students in pre-kindergarten through second grade will enjoy early childhood music for two five-week intensive programs. They will choose from three courses: Adventures and Exploring Music, Building Musical Bridges, and Discovering Music. The program focuses on an inclusive and supportive camp experience for children ages 3-18 with special needs.
Music therapies for rhythmic education
The programs will be based-on conducting small and large group activities, such as instrument exploration, arts and crafts, singing, and movement. The musical learning journey will be segmented according to the capabilities;
- Students from third grade to fifth grade will convene once a week for a comprehensive general music curriculum, including an instrument sampler.
- Students in grades six through eight will gather at Levine three times a week for Instrument Ensemble, Vocal Ensemble, Digital Music, Rock Band, or Musical Theatre.
- Students studying in ninth and tenth grade will have music classes four times a week. They will be facilitated to choose from Chamber Orchestra, Introduction to Acting, Digital Music, and Rock Band.
Dennis Bisgaard, head of school for Whittle’s D.C. campus, said, “This partnership will empower our students to experience the joys of learning music and develop a passion for the arts in the process.”
