Social Life After School
“Man is by nature a social animal; an individual who is unsocial naturally and not accidentally is either beneath our notice or more than human. Society is something that precedes the individual. Anyone who either cannot lead the common life or is so self-sufficient as not to need to and therefore does not partake of society is either a beast or a god. ”
These are the exact words of the great philosopher, Aristotle in which he described the man as a social animal. Animals, who are interdependent to fulfill their individual as well as social needs.
From the time of origin, we always wanted a sense of belonging after the satisfaction of our basic needs, that why we formed these social tribes, which include our family and friends as the time goes by it got bigger.
Expectation on board
But we will concentrate on the expectation of a student from his/her social life after school. Life as a college student brings some changes, which were not there before. As young adults, we hope and dream of a social life that can satisfy our needs on various different levels.
Education supposed to be a big part of this new social experience but our other needs do not need to take the backseat. We can learn and have fun at the same time; we just have to find the right balance that suits us.
Changes are bound to happen
People tend to change themselves according to the new social norms that they are presented with. Some changes are inevitable but some are forced; it can be from peer pressure, the building of your new identity to get accepted, or differentiating yourself from the crowd.
These gradual changes eventually are going to be part of a student’s personality and will structure the more refined future of them. The changes might be good, might be bad, according to the decision taken by them at the start of it.
Part to be played by the Institutions
This is where the educational institutions can help these budding young minds, by guiding and nurturing them to be future leaders in their respective fields and prevent them from faltering from their path.
A student feels scared and lonely at the start of a new session; the nerves can get better of them in making wrong choices which can harm not only them but also the society. So not just provide specialized education but also provide complete social experience.
Student’s role
That’s the part colleges have to play, but what about the students? They are considered as young adults, they themselves want to be treated as adults and they are fully responsible for their actions. There should be a prevailing self-conciseness among each and every student to succeed.
Self-retaliation cannot be taught, it is up to each individual to set a realistic goal that they want to achieve at the end of this social experiment. And get out of it with a professional degree and an experience that is going to help them throughout their lives.
